Shipping feels simple at first: pack the boxes, print the labels, and send them in.

Then the fees, fulfillment center transfers, and endless trips to UPS start eating into your time and profits.

The good news? A few simple changes can cut costs, get inventory live faster, and make scaling easier. Here are five shipping hacks Amazon sellers should know in 2026.

1. Build Shipments Around Optimized Placement

If there's one shipping strategy worth learning early, it's optimized shipments.

Amazon rewards sellers who send five or more identical boxes with the same products in the same quantities by waiving inbound placement fees and spreading inventory across multiple fulfillment centers.

That means lower shipping costs, less fulfillment center transfer, and inventory that's available to more customers across the country. It can also help you compete for the Buy Box in more regions.

What This Actually Means For Your Week

Without optimized shipments With optimized shipments
Pay placement fees No placement fees on qualifying shipments
More fulfillment center transfers Less transfer after check-in
Inventory becomes available slowly Products usually go live faster
Limited regional coverage Inventory is spread across the country

With Boxem, creating optimized shipments is simple. It flags qualifying shipments for you, making it easy to save on placement fees without having to keep track of the requirements yourself.

Even if you're still sourcing small quantities, it's worth thinking ahead. Buying products in quantities that divide evenly into five, ten, or twenty boxes makes it much easier to take advantage of optimized shipments as your business grows.

2. Don't Ignore the Prime Bump

One common beginner mistake is matching the lowest FBM price. That can leave money on the table.

If a listing is mostly FBM offers and you're sending inventory to FBA, you can often price higher and still compete for the Buy Box because customers value Prime shipping. This is known as the Prime bump.

Instead of automatically matching an FBM offer, try pricing roughly 10% higher and see how the listing behaves.

Depending on the competition, many FBA offers still win over FBM because buyers prefer fast Prime delivery.

For example, if an FBM seller is priced at $20, an FBA offer around $23 may still compete successfully while giving you more profit per sale.

Not every listing behaves the same way, but it's worth testing before racing to the bottom.

3. Wait Before Lowering Your Price

Many sellers lower their price as soon as Amazon sends the inventory checked-in email. That's often too early.

A shipment being checked in doesn't mean customers can receive the inventory yet. Wait until your offer actually shows competitive delivery dates on the listing. Once customers can receive it in about 10 to 14 days, it's time to lower your price and compete.

This helps prevent unnecessary price drops while your inventory is still being processed by Amazon.

Boxem users can start with the Auto Pricing feature to automatically price inventory about 20% above the current Buy Box when creating a shipment.

Once the inventory is fully available, Boxem can also pass the buy cost to integrated repricers like Aura, Seller Snap, and BQool. From there, the repricer can then take over and adjust your list price based on the competition.

4. Use Custom SKUs From Day One

Custom SKUs are one of those things many sellers wish they had started using earlier.

With Boxem, you can automatically build SKUs using information like:

  • Buy cost
  • Supplier
  • Purchase date
  • Custom details

That means every shipment carries useful information instead of just another random code.

When you're looking through reports months later or trying to remember where a product came from, that information is already built into the SKU.

Variable SKUs also work with Boxem's analytics, making it easier to track profits across suppliers and purchases.

5. Stop Driving Every Shipment to UPS

Dropping off shipments might not seem like a big deal at first, but those trips add up fast as your business grows.

Instead of spending hours loading boxes into your car and driving to the carrier, schedule pickups. USPS pickups are free for qualifying shipments, while UPS pickups are typically inexpensive compared to the time they save.

As your business grows, your time is worth more than the cost of a pickup.

That extra time can go toward a sourcing trip, prepping inventory, or finding your next profitable buy online.

Small Shipping Changes Create Bigger Profits

Finding better products is only part of the game. How you ship, price, and manage that inventory matters too.

Optimized shipments cut fees, the Prime bump can increase profit, variable SKUs simplify tracking, and scheduled pickups save time. Together, these simple changes can reduce costs, get inventory live faster, and help you reinvest your profits into more inventory.
